Nigerian Air Force Strikes Decimate Terrorist Hideouts in Borno, Katsina
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully executed a series of precision airstrikes on terrorist hideouts in Borno and Katsina States, dealing a significant blow to insurgent operations. The strikes, conducted between March 17 and March 19, targeted key strongholds in Chiralia, Grazah, Yuwe, and Zango Hill, neutralizing several terrorists and dismantling their operational networks.
In a statement released on Friday by Group Capt. Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF, the operations were described as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the North-East and North-West regions.
North-East Operations
On March 17, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai launched a major assault on Chiralia, a notorious terrorist enclave within the Timbuktu Triangle. Intelligence reports revealed that insurgents in the area had been conducting violent raids along the Maiduguri-Damaturu and Damaturu-Biu highways, abducting civilians and looting supplies. NAF attack aircraft carried out a devastating strike, destroying multiple enemy structures and eliminating terrorists attempting to flee.
The following day, NAF fighter jets targeted Grazah, a fortified hideout in the Mandara Mountains, and Yuwe, an insurgent stronghold in Sambisa Forest. Grazah was identified as a location where extremist leaders were indoctrinating fighters. Precision strikes decimated key targets, while follow-up bombardments neutralized fleeing terrorists, severely crippling their networks.
North-West Operations
In Katsina State, NAF conducted a coordinated aerial assault on Zango Hill in Kankara Local Government Area. Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions had identified armed bandits entrenched in the rugged terrain. NAF attack aircraft launched precision strikes, destroying enemy positions and targeting regrouping fighters. Helicopters provided Close Air Support (CAS), engaging bandits who attempted to attack ground troops and ensuring their safe advancement.
The operation resulted in the annihilation of multiple armed criminals and the destruction of their fortified hideouts, significantly weakening their operational capacity in the region.
Significant Impact
Group Capt. Ali emphasized that the airstrikes not only neutralized high-value targets but also destroyed critical infrastructure used by terrorists for logistics and coordination. “NAF remains committed to sustaining the momentum of air operations in close coordination with ground forces to ensure the restoration of peace and security in affected areas,” he stated.
The successful operations mark a major step in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry, showcasing the effectiveness of coordinated air and ground efforts in dismantling insurgent networks.
