Do you need a Google Hangouts account? What you should do – You don’t need a Google account to join a Hangout meeting; instead, you must be invited. In particular, the user who invites you must have a G Suite account in order to use the function that allows non-Google users to participate as guests in a meeting.
Hangouts is a Google website for people to talk to, but it does not require a Google account to use.
Most of the time, you’ll need a Google account to set up Hangouts or use the platform.
Many who do not have a Google account can still participate in a Hangout if a participant in the event has a G Suite account and grants permission to external guests.

Google Hangouts now allows you to invite everyone, even those who do not have a Google account.
Users of Google Hangouts, the Google video conferencing app, have long complained that the service is only open to those who have Gmail or Google+ accounts. Google responded to these concerns today by introducing a “guest” mode that allows hosts to invite others to a Hangouts session.
Hangouts organizers must also have a Google account. However, once they have launched their Hangout, they can invite “external guests” (those who do not have a Google account) to join the conference via Google Calendar. Guest(s) will start chatting without establishing a Gmail account or a newly renovated Google+ account by clicking on a connection in the invitation.
External guests are welcome to participate on any web or mobile site but must be authorized (and can be recorded at any time) by the organizer. The functionality is still being rolled out, so if you can’t do it now, you should be able to by the end of the week.
While an obvious advantage for current Google Hangout users, the new capability is likely to increase Google Hangouts’ adoption as a video conferencing and video chat option and provides a particularly persuasive alternative to other competing video chat services such as FaceTime, which requires all participants to use an Apple device.
