Facebook Dating: How to set up, use, and more with your profile – (Pocket-lint) – A free dating service has formally been introduced by Facebook. It’s called Facebook Dating, and now in the US, it’s real. Here’s how things work.

What is dating on Facebook?

Facebook is pitching its new dating service as a way for Facebook users to find meaningful connections through things they post (i.e., similar interests and groups). It is designed to remove the hassle of having a separate dating profile, and Instagram is integrated, allowing you to share Instagram posts directly to your dating profile. as well as adding secret crush lists to both Facebook friends and Instagram followers

Of course, you might be skeptical of Facebook dating. Finding a partner, after all, is incredibly intimate, even though it is done online. As a result, in order for Facebook Dating to be included, you must first opt-in. You will also be able to report and block others, stopping them from sending you images, videos, messages, and so on.

Other main characteristics:

  • Facebook Dating helps you to add your Instagram posts to your profile.
  • You may choose to see people with common interests in activities and groups, but note that you will still be noticeable to them.
  • To ensure that you feel safer on a date, you can share details of the date – with your live location – via a friend on Facebook Messenger.
  • Facebook would make it easy to link Facebook and Instagram Stories to your dating profile by the end of the year as well.

How is it that Facebook Dating works?

Set your profile up

Update the Facebook iOS or Android app to ensure you’re running the latest edition. Facebook Dating will be available through a new tab in the main menu of the Facebook mobile app. To opt-in, go to Facebook Dating and build a dating profile (separate from your main profile).

You may enter personal information about yourself, such as your height, religion, job title, degrees and education, and whether or not you have children, among other items. Facebook can also suggest photos and information from your Facebook page, which you may edit or remove when creating your dating profile.

Note: In order to use Facebook Dating, you must be 18 years old or older.

A match finding

During the setup process, Facebook Dating will ask you to define your gender as well as the gender(s) of the people you want to pair with on the service. You’ll see inclusive gender options like cis woman, trans woman, cis male, trans man, and non-binary person, and you can choose whether you’re interested in women, men, trans women, or trans men. Prospective matches will not be given any of this material.

Only people who have chosen Facebook Dating will be recommended to you, and individuals will be suggested to you based on your preferences, interests, and “other things you do on Facebook.” You’ll see family, acquaintances, and others who aren’t in your social circle. Facebook Dating will not match you with your Facebook mates if you both add each other to your ‘Hidden Crush’ lists. (More on this below.)

To Contact a Match

If you’re interested in someone, simply comment on their Facebook dating profile or tap the Like button to let them know if no swiping is involved. If you are not interested, you can move. All of your activities will be held on Facebook Dating and will not be shared with Facebook.

What’s the list for Secret Crush?

Hidden Crush helps you to team up with people you already know on Facebook and Instagram. You can sign up to nine Facebook friends or Instagram followers to your Hidden Crush list. (However, in order to add Instagram followers, you must first connect your Instagram account to Facebook Dating.)

Those people will then receive a message telling them that someone has a crush on them. If your crush adds you to their Hidden Crush list, it’s a match. They won’t know anything if your crush isn’t on Facebook Dating, hasn’t built a Secret Crush list, or hasn’t added you to their list.
