Find Free Stuff to Sell on eBay, Poshmark, or Facebook – There are so many free things you can find to sell if you want to make extra money from home but don’t have the funds to start a company. I literally started on $0.01 when I started my eBay business many years ago. I followed my first tip (below) and simply kept reinvesting my profits before I was able to make some for myself. There are a plethora of options for finding free time to sell. Depending on what you find, you can sell it on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Poshmark, Mercari, and other sites. It just takes a little time and effort to find free things to sell.
Here are some suggestions for finding free items to sell online (or in-person!)
Declutter your home
Decluttering your home is the cheapest and easiest way to find free products. Unless you’re a minimalist or don’t have much stuff, I’m sure you can find at least a few things you don’t want and could sell.
Remember to search your wardrobe, hallway closets, storage areas, and so on. Had boxes in your garage that you have no idea what’s inside? Have a look! If you’ve forgotten about those things, you obviously don’t need them. Find Free Stuff to Sell on eBay, Poshmark, or Facebook
Craigslist Free section
There is a free section on Craigslist. There may not be anything there depending on your place, but if you have nice areas nearby, there may be some good stuff that people just want to get rid of without the hassle.
Free stuff tends to disappear quickly, so searching many times a day increases the chances of finding something.
People are already on Facebook, so using Facebook Marketplace to list items for free is easy. To see if something comes up, try searching for “free” in the search bar.
If you don’t already have the Nextdoor App, I highly recommend it! You must first check your address with the app to ensure that you live in the neighborhood you claim to, after which it will link you with people in your area. Find Free Stuff to Sell on eBay, Poshmark, or Facebook
The app has a free section where you can look for people who are giving things away. Because only people in your immediate vicinity can see your articles, there’s a better chance you’ll get that free thing.
Friends & Family
Don’t be afraid to tell your friends and family that you’d be happy to pick up their unwanted items. Since most of my friends and family don’t want to deal with selling something, they’re just happy to get rid of things, I’ve made a decent amount of money doing this.
You might also make a public announcement that you’ll come to pick up items and donate what you don’t need. It might sound strange, but you’re actually doing them a favor by saving them a trip to drop off their belongings. The majority of people are unable to put in the effort!
Garage sale leftovers
After yard sales, Saturdays and Sundays are good days to drive around and see if people have left anything out. During many yard sales, I’ve even seen a “free” pile. Many people don’t want to bring their stuff in at the end of the day, so they’ll just leave it out for free. Find Free Stuff to Sell on eBay, Poshmark, or Facebook
While a lot of this stuff won’t sell online or individually, it might be worth collecting yard sale leftovers for your own yard sale!
People always leave things on their curb for free! Recently, a friend of ours discovered a kids Powerwheels that just required a new battery, and we’ve also picked up furniture in the past.
I have no idea how many stuff stores get rid of! I haven’t dumpster-dived in years, and I’ve only attempted it a few times. However, I know people who do, and they still have plenty of free items to sell! Find Free Stuff to Sell on eBay, Poshmark, or Facebook
When there’s a dumpster in front of a building, that’s the type of dumpster diving we do. We want to look inside to see what they’re discarding. This is how we’ve found perfectly decent bicycles.
Free samples are given out all the time by businesses! There are even websites where you can sign up to receive free samples. I’m aware that cosmetics retailers such as Sephora sometimes include a few samples.
Samples might not be worth anything on their own, but if you save samples from specific categories and group them together, you may be able to make some money. Here’s a link to a website where you can get free samples.
Giveaways + contests
Try entering giveaways if you have time but no money. Others are easy to join, but others need a little more effort, and I believe those are the ones worth it because many people will not do it unless it is a fast 2-second push of a button. Find Free Stuff to Sell on eBay, Poshmark, or Facebook
Consider how you can transform free goods or resources into something you can sell. Have you seen an ad for someone who needs a tree removed? Is it possible to cut it up and sell it as firewood?
Check your trash
Maybe not your actual trash can, but stuff people will throw away.
- Coupons (eBay’s policy on selling coupons can be found here)
- perfume bottles that have been emptied
- People use toilet paper and paper towel rolls for crafts.
- Things that have been damaged, such as electronics, are sold for parts.
- Boxtops for education (found on cereal boxes) or Coca-Cola rewards are examples of rewards (found on coke products)
Check your garden
Is there a pine tree on your property? Pinecones can be sold. Are there any chickens in your house? Feathers have a market value. Is there a vegetable garden in your backyard? See if you can sell some dried seeds. Did you know that you can start a new succulent plant from a leaf or a cut piece? Succulents are trendy right now, so if you have a few, you could grow a few more and sell them. Find Free Stuff to Sell on eBay, Poshmark, or Facebook
Looking around online or while driving around can help you find some good items to sell. Simply being aware of these opportunities and prepared to seek them out will increase your chances of finding something! I bet you’ll slow down a little next time you pass a dumpster or a yard sale to take a look!
