Marketplace on FBÂ – A new service named Marketplace, Facebook has launched earlier this week which allows users to purchase and sell material to other people in their network. This is not a novel idea: for years eBay, Craigslist, and Amazon have provided the same services. In reality, in 2007 Facebook started a malicious sales functionality under the same name. Facebook Marketplace is another location to shop for people with unwanted vinyl records or Microsoft Zune music players.
What Is It?
The Marketplace provides Facebook users 18 and over with the possibility of posting photos of garage sales and products collected and browsing items that are sold by neighboring vendors. The sellers fix the price, but the prospective purchasers are welcome to reverse this offer.
The functionality began progressively rolling out with a design version and more sites to follow in the coming months to Facebook mobile app users in the U.S., U. K., Australia, and New Zealand. Users are currently able to find things like the factory-unlocked iPhone 6 for around $350 and many vintage cameras for $20. The search results can be filtered by type of product and vicinity of products (anywhere from two to 100 miles away).
In the Facebook app on the lower part of the screen among Groups and Notifications icons where there used to be the Messager shortcut, the iPhone users will find the Marketplace symbol in the app. (Now sitting next to the search bar on the top-left angle.) For those on Android phones, the symbol is close to the top of the app, whereas Messenger is on the search bar’s right side.
Why Should I Use It?
Marketplace on FB – Facebook invites consumers to download undesired things with over a billion monthly active users. In fact, many people in recent years have been using the Groups function of the social media network to build micro markets.
Mary Ku, Product Management Director, Facebook, said in a blog post introducing the new service that “more than 450 million individuals frequent purchasing and selling groups every month – from families in the local district to collectors worldwide. In comparison, eBay had 164 million active users in the second quarter of this year, according to Statista, a data analytics firm.

There will soon be over 100 million active iOS and Android app users baking Marketplace into their Facebook app. The average user uses the app for 50 or more minutes every day.
Moreover, the purchase experience seems to be really smooth. I found it straightforward to reduce the parameters of the search and it is quite intuitive to contact merchants via Messenger. Also, the Craigslist app handles search quite well but with the Contact button, the user may just go to a web-based version of the listing and discover the information for the user. Marketplace on FB
Selling on Facebook Marketplace was also quite easy. It took less than a minute to create a listing and import the image. And the Your Items page makes it pretty painless for purchasers to organize and manage their listings and inquiries.
And the marketplace managers have repressed after a few unpleasant hip-blows on the first day of operations, infringements of Facebook’s trade policy, which restricts the sale of prescription and leisure drugs, weapons, animals, alcohol, and explosives. I couldn’t find illegal things for sale from Friday afternoon. Marketplace on FB
In an official statement, Ku said Facebook ‘fixed the technical problem that caused this situation and ‘closely monitors and removes violators as we progressively increase market access.’
What Else Do I Need to Know?
At least in comparison to Craigslist, one of the services’ primary points of sale is that the transaction provides a greater understanding of both sides, potentially reducing dim transactions. Marketplace on FB
Rachael Powell, senior social media director, Elasticity, Digital Marketing Agency, states “Marketplace gives great transparency and trustworthiness. “The intrinsic social connectivity of Facebook provides a degree of legitimacy when you consider buying from a user.”
Marketplace on FB – Unlike Craiglist, which has primarily anonymous sellers, Marmarktplace will provide you with information that will enable you to know with whom you deal. It shows the locations of Facebook profiles and photographs for buyers and sellers and users. You will also see whether you have buddies together.
And while there is no assurance of safety, it might also assist purchasers to exclude possible scammers by knowing how long a seller had been a Facebook user. Keep in mind that not everyone uses their legal name or a legitimate profile image on Facebook.
Unlike eBay and Amazon, the marketplace charges no listing fees or taxes (mostly dealing with new products). It does not, however, also protect these two companies if, for example, a product is defective or very different from what is represented in the listing. The return rules for Amazon and eBay do not apply to both Facebook and Craigslist.
Marketplace on FB -The marketplace functions much like an advertising page: It lists simple things and leaves sales negotiated between the buyers and sellers. Both parties, like Craigslist, are left with the transaction of money and commodities totally.
The marketplace has no feedback system such as eBay and Amazon, which enables consumers and sellers to assess their businesses. Rather, users must inform Facebook about suspicious or unlawful activities.
