How To Check Glo Balance Via SMS – Globacom Limited, commonly known as Glo, is a multinational telecommunications company from Nigeria founded by Mike Adenuga on 29 August 2003. The organization employs more than 3,500 individuals worldwide as of June 2018.

GLO has over 45 million (December 2018) customers, making it Nigeria’s second largest network operator.

GLO became the first telecommunications company in 2011 to construct a $800 million high-capacity fibre-optic cable from the UK to Nigeria, known as Glo-1, a submarine cable. It is the United Kingdom’s first effective submarine cable to Nigeria.

Globacom has the following strategic business units: Glo mobile, Glo Broad Access, Glo Gateway and Glo-1.

GLO is privately owned by the Mike Adenuga Group, which also consists of the real estate and land development company Cobblestone Properties and Estates, the petroleum marketing company Conoil PLC, and the crude exploration and production company Conoil Producing.

Glo Mobile

Nigeria’s second-largest Mobile Network Provider is Glo Mobile, a subsidiary of Globacom. It had one million subscribers in over 87 towns in Nigeria and over 120 billion Naira in revenue in the first year of service. Now, Glo Mobile has expanded to other countries in Africa, including Benin and Ghana. By December 2018, the user base of Glo Mobile in Nigeria stood at over 45 million. The subscription amount had reached 54 million as of November 2020.

From the United Kingdom to Nigeria, Glo-1 is the first active submarine cable and GLO is the first person African company to embark on such a project.

Glo-1 has the ability to offer quicker, more efficient and affordable telecommunications networks for high-speed Internet services. Glo-1 would theoretically make international investment and job prospects easier for Africans in particular.

The 9,800 km long cable originates from Bude in the United Kingdom and is located at Alpha Beach in Lagos, where its landing station will be located. Among many other advantages for Nigerians and the people of West Africa, Glo-1 would also boost teleconferencing, distance learning, disaster recovery, and telemedicine.

Glo Mobile was launched in Nigeria in August 2003. Lower rates, pay per second billing and other value added services were introduced by Glo Mobile. While Glo Mobile was the fourth GSM operator to be launched in Nigeria, its user base grew to over 25 million within seven years of its service.

In Benin, Glo Mobile was released in June 2008. In the first ten days of service, Glo Mobile demonstrated unparalleled growth through the selling of 600,000 SIM cards. Per Second Billing, which charges users for the same airtime used, is provided by Glo Mobile. Other value added services such as MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service), news and details from Glo Magic Plus, vehicle monitoring, musical ring-back tones and mobile banking were also offered.

Through its Glo Mobile division in Ghana, GLO acquired an operating license in May 2008 and plans to capture 30 percent of the existing 11 million subscriber market within 18 months of launch. They aim to achieve this objective by launching Ghana with bundled voice and internet services and explicitly targeting ‘un-serviced’ areas outside the two major cities of Ghana, Accra and Kumasi. In the first quarter of 2010, Glo Mobile was launched in Ghana. However, this has been delayed until the third quarter of 2011, and again until 2012. In January 2012, the “Reserve your number” campaign was launched by Glo Ghana, but even without opening up the network. On 8 April 2011, GLO launched the GLO1 submarine optical fiber, part of its inaugural service in Ghana, to launch another big player in the telecommunications industry in Ghana.

In October 2009, in Côte d’Ivoire, GLO acquired submarine cable landing rights and International Gateway Services.
