5 Variations of essential oils – At the yoga studio and at home, the fragrance is so significant. But as the candle emits smoke, so many candles can be packed with potentially dangerous chemicals that are released into the air. This is particularly true of paraffin-based candles, which are the most common and least expensive (we’re looking at you, “Warm Vanilla Sugar”) (Even soy-based ones we think are super-healthy are also filled with chemicals!).
Some of the contaminants candles expose us to include known carcinogens such as benzene and toluene, other heavy metals, and paraffin, according to CNN. Given these details, if you’re going to use candles, candles made of beeswax or soy are the safest and healthiest choices. 5 Variations of essential oils

Natural essential oils, on the other hand, deliver the calming scents you seek without any health hazards or smoke. “The air always feels lighter when we diffuse oils, and somehow cleaner than when we burn candles,” says Elena Brower, a yoga instructor based in New York City and a DoTerra ambassador. What’s more,’ diffusing essential oils releases thousands of oxygenating molecules and negative ions into the air and the climate,’ according to the Fragrance Apothecary Healing Arts Academy. Negative ions have been touted to rid the air of mold spores, pollen, pet dander, odors, and even bacteria. So if you can get a fragrance boost and also add some good boosts to your yoga studio or house, it’s a win-win. 5 Variations of essential oils
Why Scents Are So Powerful
“Over her two decades of teaching yoga and meditation using complementary essential oils, Brower explains that she has discovered that “we can build new emotional pathways using fragrance, which can have a positive effect on how we manage everyday struggles and behave in the midst of conflict.
In the mornings, I would prefer uplifting oils such as Wild Orange or Grapefruit, or oils that are perfect for concentration, such as Peppermint or Eucalyptus. Brower says she changes her scents to go with the rhythm of the day or her mood. I may incorporate woods like Sandalwood, Cypress or Cedarwood as the day goes on, or change it entirely and mix a flowery fragrance like Ylang Ylang with a more soothing Vetiver.

5 Variations of essential oils Better Than Candles
So, how do you pick essential oil combos to create an oasis in your home instead of tantalizing candle scents? Brower shares her seven go-to blends here, so you can build on your own healthier alternatives to traditional candle scents. 5 Variations of essential oils are:
- Soothing Citrus
Combine 3 drops of the essential oil of Lavender, 3 drops of the Ylang Ylang, and 3 drops of the Wild Orange. Three drops of Bergamot, three drops of Wild Orange, and three drops of Cypress are also another combination.
- Spring Floral
Combine the essential oils of Ylang Ylang and Geranium with three drops each.
- Warm Vanilla
This is one of the hardest scents to replicate, but Brower has a natural solution: a few drops of Vanilla Bean Absolute doTerra Whisper mix, made from Vanilla Beans in the presence of hexane, which is non-toxic and allows the fragrance of Vanilla to be grown during distillation. In this case, Brower says, a blend is required because “vanilla essential oil” can not be obtained. In fact, be careful if you see a label saying that because vanilla “scent” is often synthetically extracted in a fragrance.
- Holiday Blend
Mix three drops of the essential oils of Siberian Fir with three drops of Wild Orange, then add two drops of the essential oils of Cinnamon, Cardamom, and Clove.
- Autumn Spice
Combine four drops of essential oil from Tangerine with two drops of essential oil from Black Pepper.
