He is originally from Umugu-Oboro, in the southeastern part of Nigeria, in the Ikwano Local Government Region of Abia State. The name of his father is the late Pa Francis Ibeabudi Nwosu, and the name of his mother is Mrs. Ezinne Victoria Nwosu. In a family of 7 children, he was the fourth child. Ashley Nwosu attended Umuigu Central Primary School and received his First School Leaving Certificate in Umuahia-Oboro, Abia State, Nigeria. Ashley Nwosu went to Oboro Secondary School in Umuahia-Oboro, Abia State, Nigeria, and received his West African Senior School Certificate after completing his primary school education.
Ashley Nwosu went on to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in Enugu State, Nigeria, after completing his primary and secondary school education and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology. Ashley Nwosu met and married Grace Iberie Nwosu, his lovely wife, in 1985. At present, the marriage is blessed with five lovely children, consisting of four girls and a boy.
In 1988, Ashley Nwosu began his acting career with the NTA network in a drama series named “Tele-movies,” after which he entered the “Nollywood” Nigerian film industry in the early 1990s and has appeared in many Nollywood films.
Before his death, He appeared in over 200 Nollywood movies, including Baby Guards, Stone Love, Hidden Secrets, Keeping Close, A Better Place, My American Nurse, Expensive Game, Passion of Minds, Aristo, Blind Love, etc. In Nollywood movies, he always plays the role of a good father, a paramount ruler, and the title chief.
Ashley Nwosu is a moviemaker as well. In 2010, he released his first film, Shield of Faith, which premiered on 12 December 2010 at the Silverbird Galleria in Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria.
He has received a number of awards for his acting work, including Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards, Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, Most Popular Actor at the Golden Icon Movie Academy Awards in Nigeria and Best Actor of the Year at the Best of Nollywood Awards.
Sadly, He died on 21 April 2011 at the age of 56 at the Military Hospital, Yaba, Lagos State, in western Nigeria, leaving behind his lovely wife and five lovely children. He had been suffering for months because of liver disease, the cause of his death. He was one of the most talented, most imaginative, most professional, and talented actors in Nigeria before his death.
