Asa Bukola Elemide ASA – Asa Bukola Elemide, better known by his stage name Asa, is a Nigerian-French musician, songwriter, and record producer. Her guitar-playing melodies have made her famous. Her musical style is a combination of Pop, Jazz, and Indie Pop.

Asa was born on September 17, 1982, in Paris, France, under the sign of Virgo. Her parents were studying filmmaking in France at the time of her birth. Elemide is the family’s lone female child, with three males. Her family moved to Nigeria when she was two years old, and she grew up in the state of Lagos. She returned to Paris after 18 years and began her musical career.

Elemide learned how to play the guitar in six months at Peter King’s School of Music.

Through her manager and friend Janet Nwose, she met Cobhams Emmanuel Asuquo, a songwriter and producer, in 2004. Following that, Cobhams became the producer of her maiden studio album, “Asa.”

At the age of 20, Asa returned to France to study jazz music at the IMFP school. Her teachers were surprised when she told them she could keep recording because she was competent and didn’t need any schooling. In 2007, she accepted the challenge and recorded her first single, ‘Eye Adaba,’ in Nigeria. Eye Adaba, which means “dove” in English, is a solemn song filled of optimism, prayers, and a call for peace in the country. The song quickly achieved worldwide approval and acclaim.

Following that, Asa was signed to Naive Records. Her first platinum album, Asa, was produced in collaboration with Cobhams, Christopher Dupuoy, and Benjamin Constant.

Asa released her third album ‘Beautiful Imperfection’ on 25 October, 2010. She collaborated with Nicholas Mollard, a french composer to produce the album.

Bed of Stone

Asa released another studio album, ‘Bed of Stone’ in August 2014. The album contained 4 singles: ‘Dead Again’, ‘Eyo’, ‘Satan Be Gone’, ‘The One That Never Comes’ and ‘Moving On’. News has it that before the release of ‘Bed of Stone’, Asa sold 400,000 albums worldwide.
