How to find a buyer or seller’s Facebook profile on Marketplace

How to find a buyer or seller’s Facebook profile on Marketplace – Despite the fact that there are several reasons to leave Facebook, one feature keeps me there: Facebook Marketplace, an area where you can buy and sell stuff like furniture, vehicles, and vintage lamps.

Facebook Marketplace is simply a knockoff of Craigslist, only it’s linked to your public Facebook page. While the anonymity of Craigslist may appeal to some, many individuals enjoy being able to see who they are selling to or buying something from.

Previously, Facebook Marketplace made it very easy to identify who you’re purchasing from or selling to by giving their complete name and a link to their Facebook profile, but I recently observed that the site’s design has changed. The last name and profile of the buyer or seller are increasingly more difficult to find. When it’s someone you might be allowing into your home, this isn’t great.

When someone expresses an interest in an item, the chat will now display in Messenger’s “Marketplace” section. Fortunately, you may still locate the Facebook profile of the individual from whom you are purchasing or selling something. It’s simply a little more challenging.
The steps for finding a Facebook profile for someone you’re working with on Facebook Marketplace are outlined below.

First, click on the Messenger icon in the top right-hand corner of your Facebook, or open up the Messenger app.

Click on “Messenger” to access conversations you are having in Marketplace.

Click on the Marketplace conversation in Messenger to show all interactions you’ve had with people on Marketplace.

In Messenger, click on the “Marketplace” tab.

Next, select the conversation you’re having with a buyer or seller.

Select the conversation from the “Marketplace” tab in Messenger.

After opening the conversation, click on the small carrot (if you’re on the desktop) or the three dots (if you’re using the mobile app) next to the person’s first name and the title of the item being sold. This will bring up the “Chat Settings.”

Click on the “Chat Settings” to view who you are having a conversation with on Facebook Marketplace on Messenger.

Once in Chat Settings, click on “Members” (or “See Group Members” in the mobile app) to reveal the full names of everyone in that conversation. (This should be you and the seller/buyer you are trying to make a deal with.)

Under “Chat Settings” click on Members to reveal the user’s full name and to see a link to their Facebook profile.

Click “See Group Members” on Facebook Messenger.

Now you can see the person’s full name. By clicking on the three dots next to their full name on the desktop (or clicking on their name on the mobile app), you can message them, visit their public Facebook profile, or block them.

To see the Facebook user’s profile, click the three dots under “Members.”

It’s unclear why Facebook, which is known for changing the look of its products, decided to conceal such a valuable feature. Sure, being able to see someone’s profile can lead to possible misuse from bad actors on Facebook, but being able to see someone’s complete name and Facebook page before meeting up to make a transaction offers many individuals a sense of security.

Even if you’re only buying someone’s old computer display, you should always exercise caution when meeting up with random people from the internet in person. If at all possible, meet someone you intend to trade products with during the day in a well-lit public spot. If at all possible, avoid going alone and notify a friend if you must.
