Introducing Facebook Shops – Facebook has always been about linking people to the things they care about. This includes not only family and friends, but also goods, brands, and companies. For years, people have used our apps to buy and sell products, from sharing photos of bicycles with the caption “for sale” to selling your coffee table on Marketplace and now shopping trends from your favorite brands and influencers on Instagram. Social commerce was dreamed by the users of our apps. We’re assisting them in bringing it to fruition.
We want to provide a space where people can feel the excitement of shopping rather than the chore of purchasing. And we want to assist small businesses in adapting and making it easier for customers to find and purchase products they enjoy.
Many small businesses are struggling right now, and as more stores close, more are looking to expand online. Our mission is to make shopping effortless and to allow everyone, from a small business owner to a global brand, to interact with customers through our apps. That is why we are launching Facebook Shops and investing in features across our apps that encourage people to shop and streamline the process of buying and selling online.
Introducing Facebook Shops
Facebook Shops enables businesses to easily create a unified online store that customers can access through Facebook and Instagram. Creating a Facebook Shop is completely free and straightforward. Businesses can choose items from their catalog to highlight and then customize the look and feel of their shop with a cover picture and accent colors that represent their brand. This means that any seller, regardless of size or budget, can take their business online and communicate with customers wherever and whenever they want.
Individuals can find Facebook Shops on a business’s Facebook Page or Instagram profile, or by stories or advertisements. From there, you can search the entire range, save items of interest, and place an order — either on the business’s website or directly through the app, if the business has allowed checkout in the United States.
And, just as you would in a physical store, you will be able to message a business through WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram Direct to ask questions, receive support, monitor deliveries, and more. Additionally, you will be able to view a business’s shop and make transactions directly within a WhatsApp, Messenger, or Instagram Direct chat in the future.
We’re kicking off the rollout of Facebook Shops today, and it will expand in the coming months.
Additionally, we’re investing in features across our apps, such as Instagram Shop, live shopping, and more, that will be integrated with Facebook Shops to assist consumers in discovering and buying items they’re interested in.

Facebook Instagram Shops: A New Place to Discover Products and Brands
This summer, we’re launching Instagram Shop in the United States, a new way to discover and purchase items you love in Instagram Explore. You will find inspiration from @shop’s collections, browse selections from your favorite brands and designers, filter by categories such as beauty and home, and buy the looks you love all in one place. Additionally, later this year, we’ll add a new shop tab to the navigation bar, allowing you to access Instagram Shop with a single tap.
Live Shopping Features – Facebook shops
For years, people have used live video to highlight items on our apps, from shoe stores revealing new shoes to beauty influencers testing out new lipsticks. Now, we’re simplifying the process of shopping for items in real time. Soon, retailers, brands, and creators will be able to tag items from their Facebook Shop or catalog prior to going live, and those products will appear at the bottom of the video for easy access to additional information and purchase. We’ve begun testing this with companies on Facebook and Instagram and will expand it in the coming months.
Connecting Loyalty Programs to Your Facebook Account
Additionally, we’re experimenting with ways to make it easier to win rewards from companies you love by connecting your loyalty services, such as the points program at your neighborhood cafe, to your Facebook account. You’ll have easy access to and tracking of your points and rewards. Additionally, we’re investigating ways to assist small businesses in developing, managing, and promoting a loyalty program on Facebook Shops.
Working With Partners
Additionally, we’re collaborating more closely with partners such as Shopify, BigCommerce, WooCommerce, ChannelAdvisor, CedCommerce, Cafe24, Tienda Nube, and Feedonomics to provide assistance to small businesses. These organizations provide entrepreneurs with powerful resources to help them launch, operate, and expand their businesses online. They’ll now assist small businesses in developing and growing their Facebook Shops and using our other commerce resources.
We hope that these resources will alleviate some of the pressures that small businesses are currently experiencing and will assist businesses of all sizes in planning for the future.
