Mike Adenuga Biography – Chief Michael Adeniyi Agbolade Ishola Adenuga Jnr. GCON (also known as Mike Adenuga) was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, on April 29th, 1953 to Oloye Micheal Agbolade Adenuga Snr. Juliana Oyindamola Adenuga, his mother, is from a royal family in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun state. Adenuga, a millionaire businessman, is the chairman of Conoil and the creator of Globacom Limited (GLO), a privately held global telecommunications corporation based in Lagos.

Adenuga’s father worked as a teacher in a high school. He grew up in Ibadan, where he received his secondary education at Ibadan Grammar School and his Higher School Certificate at Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro (HSC). He received his university education at Oklahoma State University and Pace University, where he earned Business Administration degrees. He had to work as a cab driver while in school to support himself and pay for his education.

Adenuga got his start in the oil industry. In 1991, his company, Consolidated Oil, was the first in the area to strike oil in commercial quantities. After obtaining a drilling license in 1990, he did so in the shallow waters of Southwestern Ondo State.

When he was granted a conditional GSM license in 1999, the business mogul expanded into telecoms. The license was later canceled, but he was able to obtain a new one in 2003 at a government-run auction. Globacom, his telecommunications firm, flourished quickly and even competed with the MTN group, which was already a formidable opponent. His company began operations in Benin in 2008 and has since expanded to Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. It is actively seeking permits to operate in more West African countries. He also attempted to purchase ‘Comium,’ an Ivorian mobile telecommunications company, for $600 million.

In 2009, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested him on money laundering accusations. He, on the other hand, went into self-imposed exile in London, only to return after the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua regime granted him clemency. Following that, it was revealed that he was being pursued a total debt of USD $140.5 million owed by his company Conoil to French oil giant Total, among others.

Adenuga owns a large number of landed properties and assets valued in millions of dollars. Mike Adenuga’s Falcons 7X private jet costs $51 million (N8.2 billion), making him one of the wealthiest Nigerians with a private jet. His estimated net worth is $4.5 billion.

Enola Adenuga, Bella Adenuga-Disu, Tunce Paddy Abolade, Micheal Babajide Adenuga, and Adetutu Oyindamola Emilia are the five children of Adenuga and Titi Joyce Adenuga. Titi and Adenuga met at the now-defunct Devcom Merchant Bank, which he owned at the time. According to accounts, Titi was looking for work in a bank when she caught the attention of the businessman, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Adenuga is a sports fan who has partnered with his Globacom company to support sporting events. He funded the African Handball Championships, which were held in the Benin Republic a few years ago. The firm has also been a sponsor of the annual Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards since 2005. Globacom is also a sponsor of the Lagos International Half Marathon.

The billionaire has a mansion in Ikoyi, Lagos state’s famed Banana Island, which is said to be worth more than $50 million. The property includes eight duplexes, a large home office, a mosque, two large watchtowers, a church, and a large multipurpose hall with seating for 200 people. He also owns two Falcons 7X private jets for a total of $50 million. The billionaire also owns a $30 million Bombardier Challenger 604.
