There is a great demand for IT experts from Ukraine alongside increased demand for IT solutions. Such a request takes a global interest and empowers establishing modern institutions to provide a new system for training IT specialists. Sergey Tokarev, the founder of the Roosh technological company and Pawa venture studio, spoke about the necessity to establish a brand new computer science university in Ukraine and influencing educational projects in IT, AI, ML, and STEM.
Gradual steps in providing new IT education in Ukraine
The IT businessman notices that the project team will not commence another high-tech course or computer academy. Instead, they are willing to transform the approach to the IT education process. They find the American model as an example to implement. Due to it, the foreign lecturers will have a part in startups created on the basis of the educational institution. Sergey Tokarev explains that such an engagement of lecturers worldwide will increase their motivation and make the university a booster for startups.
In addition, the entrepreneur adds that he has signed a memorandum on the computer science university establishment with Tymofiy Mylovanov, the President of the Kyiv School of Economics, this summer. It will be a brand new educational institution with innovative principles on the basis. It will also have its own laboratories of research and development and venture studios. Sergey Tokarev adds that this university will have a campus in Kyiv, an international accreditation, and top specialists from all over the world as teachers.
Necessity or requirement?
Having a wealth of expertise in this sphere, Sergey Tokarev is a co-founder of plenty of companies worldwide. The globally famous Reface app is one of the projects he invested in. Besides, it is Tokarev who anticipated a great future of this project in the early stages of its development.
In addition, he has recently founded the Pawa venture studio, due to which new projects on AI and ML are created and developed. Also, he co-initiated the STEM is FEM project. It was launched to protest gender stereotypes in the hi-tech area.
Thus, the entrepreneur believes in the excellent IT future of Ukraine and states that it is on the stage of development yet. The country has all chances and opportunities to provide more startups. However, some changes are required to move forward in this direction, according to Sergey Tokarev. First, it is necessary to change the approach used in most educational institutions focusing instead more on practical terms and implementation. For instance, STEM students at Standford University have an opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge to specific practical projects. This is because the institution provides a powerful practical base.
Next, the issue of the personnel gap should be resolved. With the highest demand for IT specialists, the tech market becomes competitive as well. Thus, a worthy workforce looks for beneficial working conditions and financial motivations. Therefore, the country must meet these requirements.
Then, it is a significant drawback in STEM accomplishment to limit gender equality. According to Tokarev, about 25% of females are included in the IT area in Ukraine. He says that gender balance affects only positively the working atmosphere and productivity.
Therefore, the potential of Ukrainian hi-tech specialists captivates foreign investors and transforms the country into a place where projects from Europe and the USA operate. Such globally recognized companies like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon already have their powerful research centers in Ukraine, and foreign investment funds invest in many Ukrainian projects.
